Personal Reflections:

About Gurdjieff:

Every the 13th of January we celebrate the birthday of George Ivanovich Gurdjieff, a great man, mystic born in Gyumri, Armenia. Around 1869 when it was knows as Alexandropol.

Gurdjieff also commonly referred to as Georges Ivanovich Gurdjieff, G. I. Gurdjieff, Gurdjieff, Mr. Gurdjieff, and G. He was a very influential early 20th century Armenian mystic, philosopher, spiritual teacher, dance teacher, and composer.

Gurdjieff taught that most humans do not possess a unified mind-body consciousness and thus live their lives in a state of hypnotic "waking sleep", but that it is possible to transcend to a higher state of consciousness and achieve full human potential.

Gurdjieff described a method attempting to do so; calling the discipline "The Work" this is different from every day work one does for living, although ideally one can use every day work as “Work”. This term is used for "work on oneself" or "the Method" of waking up in the moment from mechanical waking sleep. According to his principles and instructions, Gurdjieff's method for awakening one's consciousness unites the methods of the fakir (trains the body), monk (trains the emotions) or yogi (trains the mind), and thus referred to as the “Fourth Way” because it is interested in developing harmoniously all the parts.

Gurdjieff who said he did not create the “Fourth Way” but collected the fragments of lost knowledge distributed in different parts of the world and combined it in a way that would help the western world.

Most come to the Fourth Way after studying many other teachings, esoteric Christianity, Hindu, Buddhism, Zen, Tibetan Zhogchen, Shamanism, Sufis / Islam, Taoism, Judaism / Kabbalah and other schools… but Gurdjieff’s teachings incorporate much of the essential truths from all ancient schools and disciplines however it makes a big demand or commitment on the individual personally. It is not a romanticized religious entertainment, it is not new age, and you don’t need anything outside of yourself other than a community of like-minded thinkers who occasionally come together for group activities like we are planning toward a specific aim.

Also you can continue to be any religion you were born to, there is no conversion because there is nothing to convert to.

Also, the notion of born again or being saved or worshipping something! Forget it! Just the essential practice on your own consciousness, or awakening in each moment. By putting effort in developing your own consciousness, the personal direction becomes clear; insights and wisdom are being revealed.

It is a teaching of becoming awake, becoming your own Master, a Master over your mind, your emotions and your body, instead of being a slave to it. And utilizing every tool available to get it in a masterful way, using what one of my teachers called: “Skillful Means” to be clever with your time, energy, efforts, to achieve your Aim for the greater good of the “Self” or the big “I” Gurdjieff calls and not the self or the many little “ i ”s that sticks its head up every second acting like the boss of you.
